Fitting a shower tray and tiling.

I fitted a Mira Flight shower tray last week complete with tiling and Mira Excel thermostatic shower valve.
The existing installation was tired and water was leaking through the grout and running behind the tiles through to the floor and through the plaster ceiling.

A neat and better solution is to use a shower tray with the upstands and to make sure tiles are finished over the upstand edge. This way water leakage is restricted.
Another good tip is to use aqua board on walls instead of plasterboard. The board can be grip filled over the plasterboard walls and cut so that the corners are the only gaps which can be siliconed prior to tiling.

Even when grouting fails the board will provide a good seal and water will run back into the tray providing the board is over the upstand edge.

Preperation is everything here.

Positive thoughts are good...but useless unless you turn those thoughts into action!
Nobody ever made any money without taking a few risks too. Many people simply hate change and that's why most people never find that "extra" thing missing in their life.

Also, you must realise that in order to make a change you need to do something...
Again this is simple enough, but the fact is...NOBODY EVER GOT RICH IN BUSINESS BY DOING NOTHING...

Make sure your dreams are in the fore front of your mind because it is this that will keep you focused on the task in hand...Keep aiming for a better life for you and your family...BELIEVE IN YOURSELF BECAUSE anything is possible to achieve...

Remember - If you want to succeed you have got to take ACTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

What’s your 2010 going to be like?

What I could not have imagined in 1982 was the degree of success that is possible from the “Plumbing Business” alone. The fact is; plumbing is probably one of the last high income opportunities for handy practical DIY type individuals left.

I say this because almost all other “Easy Set Up” trades are now so regulated and certification orientated that it is almost impossible to set up without very long and extremely expensive formal training.

Plumbing has yet to be regulated in such a way and still is a very serious proposition for enterprising and handy DIY individuals.

I genuinely believe from my long experience in the business that plumbing can be a fabulous opportunity for people with a genuine desire and at least some practical skills.

I’d go one better than this even; most of the work could be carried out easily by ordinary individuals with a minimum of training. Handy DIY people are perfect for the job, including the ladies.

Now, I’m not suggesting you could start tomorrow and install your own central heating system, but within a week or two watching my DVD's, and self teaching, a competent level would be possible to carry out tasks such as small leaks, ball cock replacements, tap washers, washing machine installations and other simple tasks.

You will learn how I have achieved high earnings regularly and still do today.

Wasted Time

The nicest thing about working for oneself is the feeling of not having to live in a regimented way at all times. We have those extra freedoms within our lives. It is a nice feeling of course, but we must never become complacent when it comes to our “work ethic”. We need to be disciplined and prepared to work when the need arises, and if we steal a little time here and there we must be prepared to sometimes go the extra mile when required.
This balance is very important for self employed and it can be the downfall of many businesses when it comes to using time wisely. I can remember a notice one of my previous employers had pinned on the office wall...
“Unused materials can be used again, but unused time is lost forever”
Something to think about.

Market Conditions and Advertising

As the demand for our services reduces due to the downturn in spending, we all need to work harder in promoting ourselves in getting all those extra jobs, especially if we are to survive.

One way we can do that is to look at what our competition might be doing.
I realised years ago that most of my own competitors reduced spending on promoting their businesses when times became hard, one would assume to save a little money in the short term, when in fact they should do the exact opposite.

I have always advocated a greater spend on advertising when the market shrinks.
This has a dramatic effect especially when considering essential services which plumbers are involved in.

The effect is twofold; the first is that it impacts on competitors own advertising, inasmuch that a positive image is presented to our public and inspiring confidence in the company concerned, and secondly, the reality of getting those extra jobs are real as our competitors presence is dwarfed by our own promotions, whether that be directory, internet or any other form of advertising.

Nobody should underestimate the positive effect of advertising, especially when everybody else seems to be reducing. It just might be possible to turn our whole situations around when we look and act positively.

It is also important to look clearly at what our own messages are when promoting our business. What are we looking to achieve, and what are we expecting when we actually spend more money on promotions.

We all need to think how we are going to grab the business that is still around, and why would anybody use our services in the first place, especially over and above our competitors.

In conclusion, we need to be very careful about making quick decisions and sometimes it is wise to be radical in our thinking because the obvious answer is not always the best.

Self Employed Plumbers

Friends,

Thanks for looking at this blog today. I'm going to be talking about my business and where it's going throughout 2010. As I have already mentioned, working for myself in the plumbing business has given me a life that I could not have imagined twenty five years ago.

The main thing however is not the "cash" generated by my system but the freedom to choose the life I wanted. Many people feel trapped within their work and it is this that motivates many people to have a stab at self employment. This was the case for me, and it is surprising what a huge motivator this is.

Many people who feel trapped within their employment never have the opportunity to break free because of overbearing financial commitments, and most often resentment sets in later in life where many opportunities have been lost for one reason or another.

We need to consider risk against responsibility, and try to calculate "not" what we might gain by having a go at self employment, but what might be lost in financial terms. Often there is a compromise where an opportunity can be worked alongside a current job.

This is something to consider and an approach that may be perfect for most people.
So, the thinking cap needs to be put on before anything drastic is undertaken.
